USC Joint Compound

USC Joint Compound is a multipurpose, ready to use, light weight drywall joint compound. It is used for embedding joint-tapes, finishing and smoothing gypsum panel joints, nailheads and metal corner beads. It is also used for skim coating or creating textured finish on gypsum panel surfaces.

PREPARATION & APPLICATION

Ensure the surfaces to be applied with USC Joint Compound are dry, clean, free from dust and loose adhering material. Remix content lightly. If necessary, thin the compound by adding a little water (approximately 100 ml) at a time and remix gently before applying. Avoid over mixing and dilution, which may cause cratering, abnormal shrinkage and poor bonding. Apply only onto dry surfaces and allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying subsequent coat.

AREAS OF APPLICATION

JOINT FINISHING
Fill up joint between panels with USC Joint Compound with a spatula. Centre and press in joint-tape. Remove excess compound and apply evenly a thin coat over the tape and nailheads. Spread smooth with long, parallel strokes. Repeat if necessary for second coat, feathering approximately 50mm beyond edges of the first coat. Once dried, use wet sponge to smooth finish area.

TO FINISH INSIDE CORNERS
Apply compound to both sides with a spatula. Fold tape along centre crease and press into position. Remove excess compound and apply evenly a thin coat over the tape. Apply second coat on one side and let dry, before applying the other side. After drying, apply final thin smooth finish coat, feathering approximately 50mm beyond edges of the first. Once dried, use wet sponge to smooth finish area.

TO FINISH OUTSIDE CORNERS
Fasten metal corner bead to the wall. Apply 3 coats of compound, each feathering approximately 50mm beyond edges of the previous coat and allow the compound to dry between coats. Once dried, use wet sponge to smooth finish.

SANDING
If sanding is necessary, wrap fine sand paper of grit 120 around a block of wood for effective sanding. Avoid scuffing panel-paper. Alternatively, use a moist sponge to wipe joints in a sweeping motion to remove any uneveness.

TO CREATE TEXTURED FINISH
Texture finish can be created by first applying ample amount of compound onto drywall by using a paint brush. Texture the surface by using a paint-roller, sponge-roller (with / without holes), crumpled paper or any other tools of choice.

COVERAGE

A 5kg pail of compound covers approximately 10 m joints, or textures approximately 3.6m2 of panel.

DECORATING

Drywall surfaces must be dry and free from dust before decorating.

CLEAN UP

Wash tools with clean water after use. Wipe dry before storing to prevent rusting.

STORAGE

Keep container tightly sealed. Store in a cool dry place, and avoid direct sunlight.
