SURFACE PREPARATION

Surface must be clean, sound and dry. For old surfaces, ensure that loose or øaking materials and organic growth must be removed by scrapping or brushing with a stiff bristle. If the surface to be applied is very dry, it is recommended to spray water to wet the surface before applying DURACEM COLORED CEMENT to prevent dehydration.

APPLICATION

Duracem Colored Cement can be applied as a thin screed or can be sprinkled on top of the newly casted concrete floor/ surface just before the surface is hardened. Consumption is approximately 2 kg/ sq m per mm thick of screeding.

PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATE : CONCRETE SLAB

When the mix has reached plasticity, smooth out the freshly placed concrete and flatten off with a vibrating straight edge. It is recommended to use a mechanical trowel for the smoothing operation.

FLOOR SCREED

Cement mortar screed shall have a minimum thickness of 50 mm. Care should be taken to ensure good adhesion between concrete and screed. The same application details apply as mentioned above.

SPRINKLING DURACEM FLOOR HARDENER

The concrete is ready for the Duracem Floor Hardener sprinkling when a thumb pressed hard on the surface leaves a 3-5 mm deep print. Duracem Floor Hardener is then spread by hand or with a suitable device, with consumption at a rate of 4 to 5 kg/m².

COMPACTING

When Duracem Floor Hardener has been moistened by the concrete water, use a low speed mechanical trowel held perfectly flat.

If parts of the surface are loose, or if the laitance rises, the concrete is still too fresh and it is necessary to wait longer before compacting.

SMOOTHING

As soon as plasticity or initial set permits, the presmoothing is carried out with the same low speed mechanical trowel equipped with metal smoothing gear at the minimum angle.

The final smoothing will be performed later with a high speed trowel. (preferably PVC Blades)

CURING

The Duracem Floor Hardener surface must be protected to prevent early dry out and cracking.

SHRINKAGE JOINTS

Joints for shrinkage and insulation, especially around columns, shall be formed approx. every 4-5 m in both directions. Take into account existing joints in the base preparation and for the alignment of columns and traffic lanes. Joints shall be cut to approx. 1/3 thickness of the slab.

PUTTING THE TREATED SURFACE INTO SERVICE

Depending on ambient temperature and the type of cement used in the slab, the preusage waiting time is:
24 – 48 hours for foot traffic
7 – 10 days for light vehicles traffic
28 days for normal traffic

CONSUMPTION

Average consumption: 4 to 5 kg of Duracem Floor Hardener per m², yielding a 2-3 mm strengthened coat.

STORAGE

9 months shelf life in unopened bags protected from humidity.
